Invitations to next round parties are based on previous years (maybe 3) success rates. The more invitations accepted the less invitations need to be extended. In other words, ABC has a 99% acceptance rate for all rounds before prefs. DEF has a 75% acceptance rate. Because of their almost 100% acceptance rate ABC can invite back less girls and still pledge quota because statistically all or nearly all of the girls they have on their first bid list will choose to return or pledge. DEF doesn't have as strong a record as ABC so in order for them to pledge quota they need to invite back more girls than ABC does to have the same level of success. Quota is determined after pref. It is basically the remaining number of PNMs divided by the number of sororities. ABC is very successful so they may only have to invite back twice the number of quota to pledge to quota, while DEF might have to invite back 3 or 4 times quota to fill their new member slots. No girls will be set aside or cut from rush to provide new members for Alpha Phi. Girls who are dropped for various reasons or who drop out of their own accord have a chance to join Alpha Phi after Rush is over, but understand that every girl who attends Alpha Phi events won't get a bid, just like every girl participating in formal recruitment won't get a bid.
