Tiers do matter. People do view you according to your letters! A good example is looking at the dynamics of high school clubs and how people view each group. Top tier: cheerleaders. They get respect and are looked up to. No they're not perfect, but they are perceived as having the most fun. Middle tier: dance team. Every bit as talented as cheerleaders, just not as popular. Bottom tier: band. They get no respect, but have a blast with their awkward band friends. I'm not insinuating that there are no cheerleaders in bottom tier houses, these are simply metaphors.
