hey man I know what you mean. I'm also from the north. Boston to be specific. It is harder to rush being from the north. Because of where your from and lack of connections most top tier houses will look the other way. Don't get discouraged I was able to find the right fraternity and couldn't be happier. Going through rush you'll meet the guys in every house. As I was going through I found that beta, sigma pi, and phi kappa psi were all very well rounded houses. They won't look the other way based on where you're from. In one house I was able to find a couple guys who lived just a few miles away from me back home. If you really stand out you may even have a shot at ato or kappa sig. They do take people from out of state but usually only if they have money/legacies. If you're into playing sports and intermurals beta takes intermurals very seriously and so does pike. Being from the north mah hurt your chances at pike however. Hope this helps.
