Yes. You really need to network if you want a top house, but if you do that you'll be one of maybe five from your whole state out of a few hundred. It just depends on what you want and how much tiers matter to you. I'm from pretty far away and I love my middle-tier sorority more than anything. The girls understand what it's like being far from home and I've even met a few who live fairly close to me. If you're a girl I would suggest thinking about KKG, Phi Mu, AOPi, or Pi Phi. For a guy, Pike, ATO, or Phi Psi would probably be your best bet. If you really want to go for the top tier houses, look into going to jumpstart this summer. It's a good chance to meet older people while you're still allowed to talk to them.
