It generally takes connections or friendships to get in the top three or four, whether you are from out of state or not. A majority of freshmen have been from out of state for several years now. Fraternities are more likely to give a bid to someone they like regardless of their residence or connections. That said, I would say there is a general preference as follows, which may vary from chapter to chapter (anyone disagree?). 1. North and Central Mississippi, including the Delta, excluding East Central Mississippi 2. Texas, Georgia, Memphis Area, Missouri boot heel area 2. East Central Mississippi 3. South Mississippi (Hattiesburg to the Coast) 4. Alabama and Tennessee 5. Remaining C.S.A. states 6. Border states and Southern Illinois 7. The rest of the country.
