That's not why the university has a GPA requirement for rushing Greek membership, the admin doesn't care about the sororities having too many members. The requirement applies to fraternities as well. The GPA requirement to rush exists because academically borderline kids are questionable in being able to handle their college level classes. Greek life takes up a lot of time and causes a lot of distractions, so if a kid can prove they can keep up their college grades then they can try juggling the demands of Greek life. It doesn't prevent non-formal recruitment bids, but the admin has to do something. If your grades are that low you need to pledge the library.
