FALSE "Having more than one rec doesn't help you or give you an advantage at any house." Yes they do, especially if they are good recs from well know alums of the chapter. "Recs don't matter." They do matter, but so do in house connections. TRUE "Recs do matter. Get at least two." Truth is some people say they will write you a rec and they don't or they forget. You should aim for three really good recs. Good recs are important. Get a rec from someone who is going to take the time to honestly tell the chapter about you and not just check the boxes and attach your resume. Get recs from Ole Miss connections. Random recs look - random... Letters of support are important too. Truth is they may not even get read, but we take note of who got them and who wrote them! Thank your rec writers and letter writers! It takes valuable time to write a good rec and/or letter. Send them a small token of appreciation a week or two after you've given them your packet. It is just good manners AND it serves to 'gently remind' them to actually write your rec!! Tacky rec folders get noticed. It's not necessary to have elaborate folders BUT if you send one it better look good or it will be noted. Choose your fonts and colors wisely! Save the cheap railroad, open field, stairwell photos for your Aunt Pam. Cute candid photos go over so much better than cheesy contrived poses. TRUE & FALSE "Recs don't matter.... all about who you know and who you know that someone in the house does not like." Recs DO matter but so do in house connections! And true, one bad in house connection can get you cut. Rush is so fun and getting ready for it can be fun too especially if you're well prepared! PanLove!
