Good advice. If a transfer student comes in with an open mind and is willing to accept a bid from a sorority that might be considered a lower tier I believe they could find a home. It will be a little more difficult without connections so meeting as many people as possible during the first month of school is going to be important. All our Ole Miss Sorority are really good, regardless of what the GR Trolls are constantly posting. If it ends up that you are dropped from all houses during recruitment - be sure to contact Panhellenic immediately (and privately) and let them know you are still interested in Greek life. Sometimes in the shuffle of girls dropping out and if one of the sororities didn't quite make quota they could possibly have them redirect their attention to you. Good luck!
