If you have good grades (houses do/can cut on grades), get your recs in, show interest in every house, etc.- you will have a chance to find a home. Plenty of OOS girls find a place they love, but you have to put the effort in. From my experience I don't think family connections really matter anymore unless someone knows actives in a house and those girls look out for you or if you have a relative who's in the chapter now. Even legacies don't count like they used to (aunts and cousins who were in sororities do not make you a legacy as some people think). And this doesn't mean you won't have a shot at a house you love - you will. Connections do matter for the top tier houses, with rare exceptions. The good news is that there are great girls in every house so if you don't know anyone in the top tier, don't worry, all the houses here have a lot to offer. You have family from here, they loved Ole Miss, there's no reason why you might not love it. You'll never know if you don't come here and if you wind up not loving it, then you'll find somewhere else. Sometimes OOS girls don't like it (for many reasons, including being homesick which has nothing to do with OM), but then sometimes Mississippi students don't like it - that's life!
