One distinction that needs to be made about "MS rich" is that it is old money and just that, unearned handed down money whereas the "OOS rich" is new (or newer) money, and those families don't just have capital and equity; they have power. People here might look down their noses at the heiress of a New York media empire, for example, but that one family has access to real global networks of influential people and wealth. Like, MS rich is nothing compared to the real affluent coming from finance, tech, media, law/politics, pharma etc. I'm not advocating for any of that globalist stuff, just saying it's weird how the wealth and power of Mississippians are so limited and confined to the borders of this state.
