Co-sign on Illinois. Greek life is huge yet way more laid-back than in the SEC. When it comes to sororities, there are 18 NPC chapters, but each chapter is small enough (~250 members) that it's easier to get to know people. Tiers, while they exist, don't matter as much as they do in the South, and you don't absolutely have to have recs to get a bid to a good house.
