The advice above is excellent. And if you're OOS, especially out of region, then things can seem super welcoming during a visit and maybe some people think that meant finding friends would be easy. I think what the girls you know experienced was being in a rather different environment (majority of students here are a mix of Mississippi and Deep South) and having to work to find "their place" which can be harder when you don't know anyone. I think some girls believe that sorority life means instant friends. It doesn't. Houses are huge so it takes work to find your group. I think the girl who left after one semester really didn't give OM a chance. The irony is that she was in a sorority. It's sometimes girls who don't get into a house who leave after a semester.
