I doubt you are a future PNM - but whatever. Here's as simple an explanation as I can possible give you. For several years the numbers for active sorority memberships was off balanced - some had quite a few more members than others. Were those bigger sororities the more popular established sororitys? Yes. This off balanced membership would make it difficult for newer or struggling sororitys to survive. Variable Quota was established to give the newer and struggling sororitys a chance AND to reduce the membership numbers of ALL sororities to manageable sizes. Quotas are established by considering the size of each sorority at the beginning of recruitment and the number of PNMs who complete the recruitment process. The purpose of Variable Quota is too bring the sororities within reasonably equal workable numbers. This is something every Active on campus is easily able to understand.
