The issue here is variable quota for KD/DDD/XO. Let's first be honest. The vast majority of girls, even really wonderful girls, had no shot at Chi O this year. Just because they lost some top top top girls to KD and DDD, it is still an elite class, no question. The girls they DID get are beloved and connected and gorgeous. KD and DDD just stole some away, but it's not that they had a bad group. The problem is that before variable quota, if a sorority didn't get all the Jackson or Memphis girls they were counting on, they'd still have truly top OOS girls that, if we're being honest, are often times just as smart, pretty, and classy, if not more so. Now with the top 3 having to cut even MORE girls, those wonderful OOS and non-connected girls are getting cut and going to Kappa, DG, Phi Mu, and so KD/DDD/XO are competing for the SAME exact pool of girls, with absolutely no padding. So there's absolutely no room for error for any of those three. Now if any top 3 sorority loses 10 connected MS girls, they can't just fill the class with 10 wonderful girls from LA, TX, GA, etc. They just have 10 less than everyone else. Variable quota is wonderful for the middle chapters, who are getting outrageously good girls, and for the lower chapters, who have wonderful girls as well. It's awful for the top chapters, and whichever of the Top 3 rushes #3 in a given year, they are in a tough spot. The Chi Os are going to be just fine, they got wonderful wonderful girls. Every girl in their pledge class was wanted fiercely by many other great sororities. But I wonder if all three may try to target some truly top OOS girls that they know they can win to prevent them from missing quota because one of their two top competitors outrushed them in key MS/Memphis areas.
