FIrst off, We dont really care about old money and there aren’t any old row fraternities and old row vibes. It doesn’t take as much influence/connections to get into a fraternity as it does in the south and fraternities here are open towards different people. Unlike much of Greek life in the south, we have a lot of kids from all over the country and of different racial backgrounds. For example, SAE nationally has a pretty bad history of racism(OU SAE a couple years ago) and was actually founded in the confederate south, yet SAE at IU is pretty diverse. Houses here aren’t just a bunch of dudes in chubs and vineyard vines shirts/ Hicks waving around confederate flags. One of the biggest differences is that Pike is irrelevant here, they’re a respectable fraternity and a powerhouse in many southern schools but they irrelevant here. Also, IU also doesn’t follow many of the fraternity traditions that they do in the south. One of the worst things about IU Greek life is that our school doesn’t really support it and is trying to get rid of it, compared to southern schools. Overall, IU has a big Greek system with massive houses and long roots, just like the south. It’s a little different tho.
