Schools in the south tend to have better placement rates for lower chapters. Alabama in particular is really good at this, their bottom houses either make quota or come very close every year. There are two main differences I think: 1. Ranks at a lot of SEC schools are based on sisterhood, grades, involvement, not looks or pairs. When you’re rushing for the best sisterhood for you, you’re probably more likely to accept a bid to any house. It’s also not a big deal to be bottom at schools like bama or UGA, you mostly have the same opportunities. There may be fewer debutantes in your PC but that’s NBD for most people lol. 2. Most big southern schools like alabama and ole miss for example don’t have any nationals on campus I would consider “small.” UGA has one, d phi e, and they really struggle even though they have a house. Girls are way more likely to accept a bid to a lower house if they’re popular nationally like gamma phi or dg. Unfortunately these things are not really feasible for IU but it’s all up to sorority members to change the system in ways that it can be changed.
