So well said. Like a lot of people I got caught up in being in a house that was “top tier”. In all honesty, I think it is almost impossible not to get caught up in it. People talk, and it’s very hard to keep an open mind when everyone around you is saying that certain houses are “better” than others. I got a bid from a house that wasn’t my first choice, but I decided to give it a try anyways. Even on bid night I was so overwhelmed and felt so out of place that I wondered if I should just drop. I decided instead to give it a shot. Now two weeks in I’ve met people who I might not be super close with yet, but I could see myself being best friends with and living with next year. I’m not saying being top tier is bad, hell some of my good friends are “top tier” and they are some of the nicest people I know. I just think once you get into a house and start to get to know the girls, the tier system doesn’t even cross your mind anymore and you just enjoy the company of all the people you meet. The tier system may always be part of IU to a certain degree, but once rush is over (at least for me) it doesn’t even cross my mind anymore.
