www.tucsonnewsnow.com/story/29119320/ua-sanctions-fraternity-for-conduct-violations The above link is the recent article regarding the closing of Theta Chi at University of Arizona. The University of Arizona announced on Wednesday that it has withdrawn recognition of the Theta Chi fraternity after finding multiple violations of the Arizona Board of Regents Student Code of Conduct. According to a news release, the violations were for hazing and causing harm. A picture posted on Facebook that appeared to indicate injuries consistent with paddling prompted the investigation. "We have no tolerance for organizations that make hazing or physical harm part of the member experience," the UA dean of students, Kendal Washington White said in the release. The Theta Chi national office is cooperating with the university and can reapply for recognition in the fall of 2019. The national office also suspended the chapter for an interim period of 60 days. The university's investigation found that the paddling ritual was introduced to the chapter in the fall of 2011, and new members were subjected as recently as the fall of 2014. Loss of recognition means the fraternity is not authorized to use university facilities and resources and cannot participate in university events, including programs with other student organizations.
