New frats pay attention! Theta Chi is a great example of why a chapter should not start hazing. SAE has been around for a while and it is well known that they haze so we'll leave them out of this. New chapters, you guys did not go through the pledge process/ were not hazed and therefore have no idea how it feels to be on the other side. What you may see as "funny" and that "they deserve it because we worked so hard to establish the chapter" may be well over the line of what even the hardest hazing frats on campus are doing. The pledge program is a time to challenge the pledge class and make them grow stronger as individuals and a team. Without the knowledge of how being a pledge feels you may not know that what you are doing is just damaging to your pledge class both mentally and physically. The "hazing" process of older chapters are rituals and activities that have been passed down for decades and perfected, and more closely resemble that of an athletic coach (pledge master) and his team (pledges) working to make the team better, not tear them down because he is bored. I hope the school does indeed give them the boot and let it serve as an example to all chapters starting or restarting at the U of A. -Old Greek
