Ugh. This is why people think U of A isn't a good academic school. Look at another school like Alabama's Greek Rank page and you'll see them go on and on about why grades and involvement matter to sororities. When there are 2000 girls going through rush, and you only bid 100 or so of them, you HAVE to cut them based on something. You can't get to know 2000 girls and rank them by personality. It just makes the most sense to make the first cuts based on grades. GRADES MATTER. They absolutely DO reflect your character. You're at college to learn and get a degree. Sorority/Greek life is secondary. You need to be able to get a good gpa to stay in school and stay in your sorority, so naturally, the sororities want girls who can maintain a solid gpa.
