In your situation, it would be beneficial to sign up to live in Hardin (Red House, if you can) and start getting sorority recommendations from Texas alumnae in addition to letters of support from any family friends that were in REPUTABLE chapters. That is, if you're interested in something top tier. In the end, however, they decide whether you're a real fit. The girls from your area that tend to do best during recruitment often go to private schools. However, good public schools aren't ruled out. For Pi Phi, Kappa, and Theta, Texas connections are essential. You're going to want to get in touch with alumnae associations so they're familiar. ChiO, TriDelt, and Zeta are also big on recommendations. Start now so you can get on the radar. Don't do any of this last minute, because it's a lot of work. I'd recommend one good personal letter of support from an alumna, and two rec forms per house minimum.
