As a freshman at the end of her first year looking back at rush and recruitment I want to add my thoughts. I really want to stress that going into rush I wanted a specific top house, mainly because it was top and multiple members of my family had been sisters at different schools. That being said, none of them were in this house at Michigan, and I had no idea what it would be like. First sets is super overwhelming, you see like 16 houses and you have no idea where you're going to end up and you're just trying to remember which girl you talked to in which house and who you liked and how to rank right. If you're really set on a top house, my best advice to you is be open to every house because I ended up actually really hating the house I thought I should go for (the top tier one). As rush went by, it was easy to see that me and my friends were all initially set on one or more of the "top" three houses, but by third sets and prefs we were all extremely happy with the houses that we had. Not including myself, my friends who aimed high for the top tier initially ended up in two of the top houses, the two houses considered tier "1b", and some mid tier houses. And we are ALL really happy!!! I can't stress this enough that rumors you hear on this site can scare PNMs before rush even begins and can even influence rush rank choices, but every house has fun, every house has a social schedule ad mixes with frats, and every house has a good sisterhood in a different way.
