I applied to Michigan as a pseudo safety, Northwestern and Brown were my reaches. All are awesome, for sort of different reasons. Chicago/Evanston is the best city ... but being in Providence puts you closer to a lot of friends at East Coast colleges, train to Boston and NYC. Ann Arbor inconvenient if you're an out-of-state student because visiting friends is a pain. But we have best sports, really great grad programs, law school, med school which show love to undergrad applicants. I got rejected from reaches. If I would have gotten into all three, I'd probably be at Brown because of vibe, Ivy League, and proximity to East Coast friends. Northwestern is basically Penn, super pre-professional, but slightly less prestigious.
