They are bids extended to women who dropped out of recruitment prior to preference round. Example: Sally dropped out of rush after the 3rd round. Sorority ABC was still inviting her back to their rounds. After bid matching, they still wind up with less than quota on bid day. They extend sally a Snap bid because they still liked what they saw from her in rush and think she would make a great member. They call Sally on bid day, tell her the deal, and she can either say yes or no. If she says yes, she goes to bid day like normal and no one has to know she was a snap bid other than her and the people on ABC's recruitment team. Not to be confused with a Quota Addition.
