www.wbaltv.com/article/university-of-maryland-lifts-suspension-on-fraternities-sororities/60216424 The above link is the updated news article stating the suspension lift.... The University of Maryland is lifting its suspension of fraternities and sororities after the conclusion of its investigation into alcohol-related behaviors and activities, according to a statement posted online Friday afternoon. Citing allegations of misconduct, the university announced the suspension of Greek life activities on March 1, banning events involving alcohol and recruitment activity. The university started interviews with Greek life members as a part of its investigation into fraternities and sororities on campus. Five chapters that remain under investigation by the university's Office of Student Conduct will continue to be subject to limited restrictions on activities. Additionally, individual students will also be referred to the Office of Student Conduct for potential violations of the Code of Student Conduct, the university said. "We recognize that temporarily pausing select activities has had an effect on our fraternity and sorority community, particularly new members," the university statement said. "However, we chose a course of action that prioritized safety and prevention, with the aim of assessing the reports we had received and preventing a significant health and safety incident from occurring." The university said it's establishing new reporting mechanisms for hazing, enhancing training and communication channels with fraternities and sororities, and creating a work group to build a culture of integrity and accountability.
