There are no permanent 'caps' on the number of sorority members. Chapter Total is not in effect during recruitment. The only restriction during fall recruitment is Quota, which is the same for every chapter regardless of their membership numbers. More pnm's staying in the recruitment process = higher quota. This is how membership sizes get larger and larger when the number of pnm's increases each year without adding more chapters to absorb the growth. Chapter Total is reset right after recruitment and again at the beginning of spring semester based on the current membership numbers of all the chapters. Any chapter below the newly reset fall Total may begin COB after bid day. Same for COB when Total is reset again in spring. This helps maintain equity among the chapters. There is also something called Quota Additions during recruitment, meaning some chapters will take more than quota. This is not about the chapter's membership numbers, but is in place for the pnm's. Every pnm who ranks both her pref chapters is guaranteed a bid to one of them, even when it puts a chapter over quota.
