You do not need to be a legacy or already know sorority members to get a bid. Most pnm's will not come in having connections but for those that do it can help them (can hurt them too) but there's nothing to be done about it. Legacy is not an advantage any longer.  People like to throw out the term 'dirty rush' without knowing what it means. If sororities are reaching out through social media to pnm's it is not dirty rushing. If individual sorority members get together over the summer and a pnm is present it is not dirty rushing (but different than a sorority holding an event which is absolutely an infraction). If you are not one of these pnm's it seems unfair so you are going to call it 'dirty' but it is not breaking any of the panhellenic rules.  Bid promising is dirty rush, bad mouthing other sororities is dirty rush, giving pnm's misleading information is dirty rush, contact with pnm's on campus before recruitment or outside of rounds is dirty rush, hotboxing is dirty rush (multiple members talking to a pnm at one time). These are infractions with consequences. Before recruitment got moved up to fall, the entire fall semester was one long 'dirty rush' because all the pnm's were on campus and fair game. All the rules were broken and there was no way to stop it. Things have changed with fall recruitment with a lot of that opportunity not being available now.
