Not really mutual

Poster Message:
Not really mutual, the sororities are in the driver's seat. The sororities decide who to invite back and their decisions do not take into account how high or low the pnm's ranks are of them; they never see those ranks. The sororities do the choosing, not so much the pnm's. A pnm will rank the sororities but will not drop any of them unless more chapters want to invite her back than the round allows; only in that case will the pnm's ranks come into play and her lower ranked houses will drop off her schedule. Otherwise, pnm's almost always return to sororities they had ranked low. Most pnm's will be released from one or more of their favorite sororities. The ones ranked lower will be back on their schedules to give them as many choices as possible. Hardly any pnm ever has a full schedule. If you do congrats, but don't brag about it, that's rude behavior and it will definitely come back to bite you. Each chapter votes and ranks the pnm's based on what they are looking for in new members, and are allowed only a certain number of pnm's back. So the pnm's that end up ranked too low on a chapter's list to make whatever their cutoff number is get released. This is why pnm's shouldn't be surprised when some of their favorite chapters don't ask them back. It's not personal, they have nothing against the pnm's they release, their selection focus is not on what's wrong with anyone but on finding the girls that fit them best. It's just all about the numbers and pnm's should not dwell on any chapter that cut them or worry about it. Look ahead to the ones that asked you back and find your future sisters. There are no bad sororities at SMU and the best girls are in every single one of them. The things the sororities take into account for the first round voting are grades and resume, looks and social media, your video, and what members who may already know you think (connections). These cuts are the deepest. Each sorority puts emphasis on each of these things differently and is looking for pnm's that fit their membership best. Some want top grades and leaders, others prioritize looks and social media, and some have a laser focus on girls from their own high schools and hometown areas. After that, the in-person rounds are about your personality and how you fit the chapter vibe. The only real 'mutual' part is at pref. Every pnm invited to pref is on that house's bid list somewhere and the pnm's ranks after pref matter just as much as the sororities' in bid matching and are given equal weight at that point. If you really love a chapter and want to be at their pref, you need to tell them so at Sisterhood. If you are at their pref and really want that bid, you have to tell them you want it. Sorority members can't read your mind. Again, there are no bad sororities at SMU and the best girls are in every single one of them. There are some bad ones too but that's another story...
