The KBG chapter at Wake Forest is a legit-looking cover for the group that used to be Pi Phi, which is a continuation of the Strings Society, a local founded in the 1940s, way before the school had national sororities. Wake's locals all had heavy-duty hazing traditions, and after they affiliated with NPCs in the '80s, they were reluctant to give those traditions up. The fact that KBG isn't NPC is likely to be a plus to some PNMs, especially if they don't become associate Panhellenic locally—the fewer rules the better. As long as the university continues to crack down on legit national GLOs on one hand but continues to recognize groups like Trilogy and ESA on the other, there will be an incentive for these kinds of situations.
