I just want to put this out here because I know there's a handful of girls that will be getting bids tomorrow that might eventually feel the way I did after a few months in my sorority. One, from the get go when I joined I knew that it was going to be hard for me to pay dues and other things because I don't have financial help from my parents. Two, I joined as a sophomore. Joining when you're older, even a year older than your pc can be a semi challenge because you're not going through all the first year ups and downs that they are. Three, at the end of the day, I didn't feel like Greek life was a right fit for me. There was always something about it that felt fake to me. There's this awkward pressure to get along with everyone in your house and forced interactions with girls you don't care for. Also, because I had that first year established and already had my group of friends, in comparison to girls in my house, I felt that my relationships with my non greek friends were much deeper. Also, because I was constantly busy with my sorority, I didn't get to hang out with the people I really wanted to. Where I am today. I stayed in my sorority for a year including last year's recruitment because I really wanted to give it a chance. When I finally did leave though, I felt a huge pressure lift off my shoulders and I felt like I had freedom again. So these are my thoughts: I think sororities are great for incoming freshman. I think this can be a great way to meet friends.
