@yes & @Hi, my roommate was the OP @pip and I wanted to put my spin on what it was like watching what she went through last year. She was so excited going into recruitment and was pleased with her house in the beginning. She jumped in with both feet and was an officer in her pledge class and joined in with game day activities and parties as much as her schedule allowed. She is a no-drama person, super serious about academics and was surprised with some of the petty rivalries, arbitrary rules that were inconsistently applied and the endless gossip that seemed to pervade the house at all levels. She hung with the situation as long as she could and spent most of the time hanging out with people from her pledge class and the dorm who weren't greek. I think the turning point was when she was aware of horrible gossip being spread and then those same people being 'nice-ey nice/super fake' to the people they were spreading gossip about which put her over the edge. We talked alot about her choice to leave and she said it was one of the harder things she has ever done. Some good news though, her big and a few of the officers reached out to her over the summer and they have been in communication to see if something can be worked out in the future while in-house issues get sorted out and I think my roommate was somewhat open to maybe returning after a break in the fall. We will see.
