your friend group will be the same size regardless of your fraternity. thats where the "close knit brotherhood" comes from. nobody is close with everyone in their fraternity or even their own pledge class. the benefit of a big fraternity in this regard is that you will more likely find a group of guys you enjoy rather than being stuck with a bad group because you joined a small fraternity. plus, the social aspect and networking side of a large fraternity is much better. the small fraternities are small because they don't have the resources and quality of brothers to recruit large pledge classes. you will soon realize that every fraternity wants to be as big as possible, which leads small, new, and growing fraternities to bid below average guys to try and get numbers. whereas the large established fraternities get numbers easily because they already have good guys, good houses, history, and resources to do so. small fraternities don't provide any benefits other than having fewer friends, connections, and resources.
