Okay, so if you're a hiring manager for a business and you have a choice between a great candidate with a good resume and interview but nobody knows anything else about, and another great candidate also with a good resume and interview but who people know personally or have trusted sources who can vouch for them, it is a no-brainer that you take the person you know. The other candidate would very likely be a great choice too, but you can only hire one. So, the unknown candidate will continue applying elsewhere and get an offer for an identical position at a nearby business with the same salary and perks. There is a great place for all and great people in all places.
