It's informal but - from what I understand - not in the structured way that some schools hold theirs. Those schools have all chapters with open spots participate and hold parties over a three-day period. You attend all the parties for all the eligible houses and if they like you they'll give you a bid. So you could be holding bids from several houses and have 24 hours to make your decision. Being from out of state, this is what friends tell me so it's confusing! Here, it seems that you're invited to parties at a few houses and have less options. This is why if you have friends from other parts of the country or friends up north you'll hear different stories. Other schools hold formal rush in January. It gives sororities the advantage of really watching potential new members during the fall semester!
