THERE IS SO MUCH WRONG WITH THIS. FIRST OF ALL STOP COMMENTING ON A STUPID POST THAT IS OVER A YEAR OLD, LOOK AT THE DATE AND DON'T FALL FOR IT. ALSO THERE IS SOME BAD INFO ON THIS THREAD FROM PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW ANY BETTER. SOME ACTUAL FACTS: - It is absolutely false that panhellenic can require any house to take new members. That is strictly against NPC rules. It is a choice for the chapters that are eligible based on Total. - Total is the max membership any chapter can have and is reset twice a year by Panhellenic; in the fall right after rush and in the first week of spring semester. There is no such thing as 'capacity' in NPC sororities. - Any chapter that falls below Total at any time can take new members to get up to that number. This applies to both fall and spring semesters. Also any chapter that did not take up to Quota in recruitment can continue to take new members in the fall. Total and Quota are not the same thing, Quota is only used in recruitment. Taking new members at any time other than formal recruitment is COB, Continuous Open Bidding. A chapter may be required by their national sorority to COB in order to maintain a certain minimum membership, but they can't exceed campus Total. - A chapter can COB in spring without holding a 'rush' and they are not required to announce they are taking new members or have taken any if they do. They can offer bids privately to girls they know they want without holding a 'spring rush', and then just register the new members with Panhellenic. 'Top' chapters have done this, you just don't know it because they don't have to tell anybody.
