Also, for further expectation setting, the sororities' Round 1 invitation lists are already made before recruitment even starts. So many pnm's think that they are starting off with a blank slate and that their ranks after the videos will determine where they go for Round 2. No, not at all, it is a done deal before the sororities meet you in person, before you watch their videos, before you put down your ranks of them. The releases were already decided, and there will be a lot of them at this round, so best be prepared to wait and see what your ACTUAL options are that you get back for Round 2 and focus on them. Rank the chapters for Round 1 honestly in how you feel, but remember that your chapter ranks have nothing to do with your getting on anybody's invitation list at any round, they only matter to remove your lowest ranked choices IF you are on more invitation lists than the allowed number of houses to visit. The only time pnm's ranks actually hold weight is after pref. A pnm will rank her pref houses 1 and 2 on her MRABA card and the chapters will submit their final rankings of the pnm's (there are no cuts after pref, every pnm invited to a chapter's pref is on their bid list somewhere). Here's how the pnm's ranks matter: The bid matching process starts at the top of a chapter's ranked bid list and matches with the pnm's who ranked that house as their #1, skipping over the ones who put them at #2. If you are high enough on your #1's bid list to match with them before they reach quota then you will get their bid. If you are not high enough, the process will then try to match you with your #2. If you are high enough on their bid list to match before they reach quota then you will get their bid. But if you are not high enough to match with them either before they reach quota, then you will still get a bid from either of those depending on a combination of factors: your ranks of the two chapters, your rank placement on the two bid lists, chapter size and new member class size. In this way pnm's are guaranteed bids IF they rank both their pref houses, even when it puts a chapter over quota. BUT if you go to two prefs and only put one on your card and you are not high enough to match with that one chapter, then you are out of the process and will not get a bid at all, so only make this decision if there is absolutely no way on Earth you would consider even giving your other pref house a chance. Also, it's good news if you are only invited to one pref and you put them on your card because you are getting that bid and can relax; you know where you're going on bid day.
