"A girl I met said she was invited automatically to ADPI just because she had a rec letter (they sent her back a letter saying this)" No no no. This didn't happen. Somebody is confused. Courtesy invites for the second round go to legacies, not just someone with a rec. And PNM's do not get letters from sororities (strictly prohibited) but those who do rec forms and legacy forms for PNM's do get a letter of acknowledgement. As far as recs, yes, they can make a difference in getting dropped or not.
