For a lot of girls in the “top” houses, it’s just a lucky roll of the dice that they are there. Lots of really great girls go through rush, and yet there are only so many openings in the “top” houses. Therefore, rest assured that you will find bright, friendly, and fun girls in all the chapters. After all, we all made it through UF admissions! Nevertheless, sororities are social groups (along with some of the more honorable purposes that we claim), so we have to pass through a screen for our socialability to join a sorority. Going through rush, you’ll get judged on having the right looks, self confidence, brains, and personality. Some girls will be lucky enough to have close friends in the sorority of their choice, and that connection alone can pull them to the front of the line. It’s only a very broad generalization that the girls with the best combination socialability are in the “top” houses because the other factors of friendships and legacies get mixed in. Unlike admissions to UF, there are no merit or diversity standards (nor should there be for a group of best friends). Having said all this, I encourage you to go through rush and see if you find a good fit. If you do, your college experience will be greatly enhanced with the extra layer of socializing, which has no rival in any of the other activities on campus.
