Even though Greek life has a lot to offer, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not rush if you are not able to commit to the finances. Make sure your parents are ok with it, etc. While it is true some girls pay their own dues through working on campus or during the summers, these are normally girls who have all other college expenses covered by their parents. Girls who are already responsible for their tuition/room/board/books, etc, please think this through completely because in the future if you decide to cut costs, Greek life is normally the first thing to go. If you are thinking of taking out a loan, be certain you are willing to do it. Some girls think they will and then back out at the last minute. Finances are the most common reason girls drop, and Rush is competitive. You could be taking some girls spot who would be able to pay and just missed that houses cutoff. While scholarships ARE offered, they are normally nationally competitive within your organization and open to only juniors and seniors who may be competing for 50 scholarships, but sororities nationally have thousands and thousands of members; so try but don't expect one. While houses do start around 800 a semester, budget 1200 because you never know where you will end up. That also doesn't include outfits for theme parties, date parties/formals, t shirts, etc. Also, first semester fees could easily add you up to close to 2k depending on the house. Not trying to scare everyone, just want people to be realistic.
