I thought it would be more affordable. Dues first semester were easily over 1 to 1.5k. There are fees for being late, missing events, etc. You need to buy clothes, which costs a lot. Going out for meals costs a LOT and adds up fast. (meals as in going out for dinner with your sisters). You need the nicest shoes, room decor, hair, eyelashes etc. Lots of spending on materials and things that really don't matter. Not as much plastic surgery as you think. Never met a sorority girl that was forced into it. However it does happen. Most of the spending goes to meals, clothing/fashion, hair, you know all that stuff. I wasn't expecting it and being in a sorority got expensive fast so that's why I actually dropped (mostly why). Unfortunately if you aren't wealthy or at least upper middle class you will have a hard time fitting in, whether it be affording dues, buying the same clothes, going on outtings with everyone, having a car, etc. So, it depends. Dues are expensive obviously, but expect to spend the same amount, if not more, on other crap. If you don't have money to spare it will be difficult, not only financially and physically but socially and mentally.
