fraternity chapters don't turn a profit. Think of all the money you and the brothers pay in dues as a slush fund for doing cool stuff that would be much more expensive/impossible on your own. The money from dues goes to paying for things like brotherhood events (suns/diamondbacks games, laser tag, etc), getting venues for parties, going to vegas for formal, etc. If you weren't in a frat, and tried to do all the same activities, you would spend more money (frats get big group discounts).
