The first step for going Greek at EIU is maintaining your GPA. The minimum GPA requirement (set by PHC) to go Greek is a 2.5. This means that each sorority cannot accept a member who has a GPA lower than this. There are two sororities at EIU that require a higher GPA: Kappa Delta requires a 2.75 and Delta Zeta requires a 2.7. This means that if you do not have 2.75, Kappa Delta cannot accept you and if you don't have a 2.7, Delta Zeta cannot accept you. This does not mean that these sororities only accept "smart girls" or base your potential membership off of strictly academics. This just means that their National Headquarters has a different minimum GPA requirement. Every single sorority on campus has smart, intelligent women and promotes academic success! If you are entering EIU as a freshman and are placed in the Gateway program, you are unable to rush/go Greek. You must be "out" of Gateway before you can. This means that you wouldn't be able to join a sorority during fall/formal recruitment, but have the potential to join a sorority during spring/informal recruitment (if you are no longer in Gateway).
