Absolutely get recs.. Remember that while Vandy now draws students both nationwide and worldwide, many girls at Vandy are from the true South and will absolutely have rec letters sent. Plus, some nationals REQUIRE that a girl has a rec on file before receiving a bid. So just secure as many as you can. Why not be as prepared as possible?
