Poll: Get In The Fraternity Or Sorority You Wanted?

Bid Day
 Bid Day
 Claire

A couple months ago GreekRank hosted a poll asking the simple question: “Did you get into the Fraternity or Sorority you wanted?”. Close your eyes and go back to the night before bid day. Maybe some of you were torn on which chapter should be your top pick and therefore you would be cool as long as you received a bid from your top 2-3 houses. Some of you, not that all of you would publically admit to it, were probably convinced that if you didn’t get your top pick the sky would literally fall down and your college career would become the equivalent of being relegated at the nerd table at lunch in high school. Well, now that the smoke as cleared, did you get your top choice and how do you feel about it today?

6315 people responded to the poll. Posed with the question “Did you get into the Fraternity or Sorority you wanted?” they were asked to select one of the following options:
Yes, and I'm happy
Yes, but now I wish I was in a different one
No, but it was a blessing in disguise
No, and I'm not happy about it
I'm not in Greek Life

Let’s dive into the results:

Yes, and I'm happy - 45% (2839 votes)
Does that seem a little high? Does recruitment system really work so well that almost half of new members were given a bid from his/her top choice? Maybe. That would be a refreshing thing to tell a PNM next recruitment season.

Yes, but now I wish I was in a different one - 10% (632 votes)
This makes sense to me. Sometimes new pledges try to be someone they’re not and they end up in a house that isn’t the best fit. Also, a house can change overtime and not everyone may be on board with the cultural shift. No, but it was a blessing in disguise - 19.4% (1226 votes)
This is pretty awesome to hear. 1/5 people don’t get their top pick and it turns out that the house they ended up in was the best fit after all. This would be important for the newly initiated members to keep in mind if they aren’t entirely please with the results of bid day.

No, and I'm not happy about it - 10.1% (636 votes)
Yikes. For the upperclassmen that feel this way, it might be time to jump ship. It might be the best thing for both you and the chapter as a whole. For the newly initiated members feel this way, hang in there and give it the old college try. Remember, 20% of respondents didn’t get their first pick and they see it as a blessing. I'm not in Greek Life - 15.6% (982 votes)
I’m unsure why these people took the survey. It just goes to show that you could put a survey about anything in front of some people and they feel compelled to share their input.
