sororities

Ranks don't tell you anything.
XO/DDD/KD: On the same level. All pledge the top top top girls from CERTAIN schools, will not consider some schools because they are exclusive. Do have out of state despite other people insisting they don't, but have strict standards. Competitive and involved. All have some train wreck legacies, some party girls, some Miss America's, some good Christian girls, some snobby girls, and some sweethearts. Variations: XO more down to earth, keep to themselves. DDD more money, status. KD more party and looks. It's a big deal to get any of these chapters, and each is great in similar ways, but different than other chapters at Ole Miss.
DG: In some ways they are just as good as the top 3, in some ways they are different, there for not by Ole Miss standard. However they complete the top tier, but as #4. DG has more a mix of girls from the schools the top 3 take, but also top girls from random places that the top 3 overlook. DG's are split into thirds. 1/3 preff'd top 3+ DG and got DG, 1/3 preff'd top 3+ DG and picked DG, and 1/3 preff'd middle + DG and picked DG. Lots of legacies too, but also out of state. Also competitive and involved. Known for being the cute girls next door.

Cont:Kappa: Girls that were heavily looked at by top houses, but just missed it. A lot of variety but generally the really fun, carefree party girls. 1/2 preff'd top + Kappa and got Kappa, 1/2 preff'd others + Kappa and picked Kappa. A little less competitive and involved than top, but known for being well liked and great personalities. Do not draw from specific areas and have the best out of state girls that were overlooked from top houses due to lack of connections.
Phi Mu: Similar to Kappa in competitive and involvement level, and for pledging girls that just missed top houses. But more like DG in that they aren't known for being the party house and generally have more of a southern bell or Miss America feel to them. Same halves that preff'd top + middle or Middle+ middle and picked Phi Mu over Kappa or bottom tier because they aren't nearly as party oriented. Known for looks, good amount of out of state, especially Alabama and Georgia.
Pi Phi: The less involved, less classy, less competitive version of Kappa. Get the average girls from MS and some great, some wild out of state girls. Could easily be middle soon after some improvement in pc's the past couple of years. They have a wild streak, but are not crazy crazy.

AOPi: The less involved, less classy, less competitive version of DG/Phi Mu. The sweetheart chapter with really friendly girls, but they were just average in high school in either grades, rep., involvement, area they are from, or looks. So they end up towards the bottom. Most everyone can name an AOPI they love because they are sweet and tight knit.
Theta: The grab bag of every type of girl mentioned anywhere above, but that had too weak grades, rep., connections, looks, anything to get them anywhere else. Harsh, but no one goes in picking Theta, you end up there and then love it. Or not I guess, which is why the numbers are smaller. Have a lot of girls you wouldn't think were sorority girls, and some that are super super sorority but have the aforementioned issues. Very close to each other.

So, each group is different. But you will find similarities in several of them. Ole Miss Greek Life is harsh, and so is rush. So if you take offense to anything, you're in denial about the facts. There are good and bad to every group, even the top tier. Just a lot less bad....

What even makes the top houses better than others? And PLEASE someone tell me how freaking DG is better than Kappa/Phi Mu and get their own precious tier?!

Top houses get the girls with the best grades, involvement, rep, and social status from the best schools/best girl out of random schools. At Ole Miss many of these girls come from money, although a lot of upper middle class too. Some groups value certain things over others, some go for best all around types, it just differs. But if you compare resumes from high school and college, or go back and ask people about a girl in high school, top houses pledge strong girls that have a name everyone knows (sometimes its negative but people always hate those succeeding) while lower chapters pledge middle of the road girls. Weak girls don't get a bid at Ole Miss. Our lower tier is average girls, not terrible ones. Once in their chapters top girls keep their sororities strong on campus through grades, involvement, winning events/philanthropy, and all around presence on campus that others can't compare to. Kappa and Phi Mu specifically do these things, just not as strongly as the traditional big 4 houses here. Like someone said above, DG is on par with the top 3 in many ways, but slightly below in some, but still above Kappa and Phi Mu.

is a fantastic sorority here. I really don't care where you rank us, but we have just as many things to offer as any other house and continually do good on campus. Recently we have had girls elected to campus wide positions, had top GPA last semester, and love to participate and often place in philanthropy events. We are competitive because we are dedicated girls who always want to be the best we can be, and make DG the best it can be. You can do with that what you may. It doesn't make us better or worse than anyone, just the best version of ourselves.

Yes, someone please elaborate exactly what makes a top house better than others. Is it just status or perception of what others think? Because top houses are certainly not known for being nice to others or even each other. Only serious answers, please, no bs.

Top houses are the houses that get asked back by the most girls during rush. KD, DDD, and XO usually have a 95% ask back rate while other houses are a little lower

because other houses knew quality and rushed them hard or they knew girls in that sorority. I could go to every house at Ole Miss and find "top Girls" but to assume all of these girls only wanted one of the MS three would be completely ridiculous. as much as those who drank the "top house Kool-aid" would like to think that all the other lower house are filled by default it is simply untrue and like it or not there are girls in their own houses that picked them #2. Rush is a difficult process and very competitive at Ole Miss but to attempt to simplify it to "everyone wants the top 3 and settles for the rest" is absolutely insulting to the intelligence of all Ole Miss greeks. Rush is never cut and dried, yes houses are judged and have certain reputations but if you would really look close you would see all the houses have everytype of girl and is a strong sisterhood so quite with the "top house" stuff.
