Try any female freshmen dorm on Saturday night @ 8:30 pm.
You will find @ 15 Newly Shocked GDIs on each floor.
Also go to the dorm multi-media lobbies at this same time.
Most are preparing university transfer applications.

Bid Day was more than a week ago. These girls have moved on unlike you.

We are entrapped here for the semester.
We are then facing a labor-intensive university transfer.
We are then facing 2 summers of classes to replace lost non-transferring college credits.
-0r, we are facing having to be a 5th year senior academically.
We are then having to go through recruitment and pledge ship as a sophomore at our new university.
Our parents paid $100 grand for our freshmen year at SMU.
Where we earned 30 credit hours, however only 21 are transferable.
Now, we are having to pay for 2 additional summer sessions or an additional semester of university classes.

Yes, we are ready to move-on from the SMU entitled, EVIL, non-empathetic Panhellenic. Who could not care less about the 300 Newly Shocked GDIs.

Your ongoing negative postings of the past three years have not, and will not, be a force for change or betterment of SMU recruitment, but you are slowly killing yourself because you can't let it go. "Holding on to resentment is like taking poison and waiting for the other person to die."

I'm also a mom with a daughter at SMU who rushed 2 years ago and joined a house. The recruitment process for over 50% of the girls is extremely disappointing. There are over 650 girls who rush each year and only 55 to 60 spots for each house.

If you do the math, that leaves 200 PLUS GIRLS PNMs without a spot. This is the reality year after year. The argument has always been that all the houses need to meet quota before they will allow larger pledge classes. That Will Never Happen at SMU due to the perceived stigma surrounding certain sororities on campus.

I have encouraged ("SMU Panhellenic to at least be Forthcoming") with the odds of getting into a house. They need to be honest at the initial informational meetings regarding the real numbers so the PNM's can enter the process with all the facts.

It's really a shame they don't add a couple more sorority houses. There is certainly interest there and would give more girls the opportunity to be in a house and have that experience in college. It's easy to say the process wasn't so bad if your daughter got into one of her 1st, 2nd or 3rd choices but for over half of the girls who rush, they don't have that outcome unfortunately. It's especially disheartening at SMU where much of the social life revolves around the greek system.

It makes me sad seeing all 300 of you eating separately in the cafeteria, not talking to anyone, just staring blankly into the distance like shell-shocked soldiers back from war. Here is an idea--maybe you can grab a few other newly shocked GDIs and go do something fun together instead of all sitting alone in your rooms watching TV. Or I don't know, maybe watch TV together. Or maybe go out. Go shopping or get some ice cream or go to a party or join a club.

Yep, our sorority Recruitment Committee had the list of 50 legacies we had to honor with bids by Halloween. Leaving the Chapter with about 10 outstanding bids to tease 700 PNMs.

Pref & Bid Day should happen the (weekend before Thanksgiving). All of the sororities are prepared to complete our recruitment efforts by then. After 5 recruitments, it is obvious the university wants to wait until mid-January to release our recruitment results to capture all of these Newly Shocked GDIs for the Spring semester.

Its all about Spring Tuition & Housing "Fee capture" for the university. We know about 300 PNMs would not return to the university if they received our recruitment results by Thanksgiving. A lousy thing to do to these 300 girls each year.

to SMUMom,

That is NOT how recruitment works. There is a bid for every woman who attends pref parties. Read some of these threads.

For every woman who attends pref parties? So absolutely no one gets dropped from every house? Oh right, there’s always that one house left. Such a consolation prize.

If you go to a pref you're on that bid list somewhere. Doesn't mean you'll match to your first choice but no one gets dropped at pref; it's a choice to suicide and take your chances. The sororities do the choosing. You aren't guaranteed the internship of your choice or the date of your choice either - they do the choosing too. Grow up.

@SMU Mom

If 650 girls go through the process, and no one is dropped from all the groups due to gpa or because they slept with an active's boyfriend 1st semester, and no one drops out because they don't like the houses that they have on their invites, then all 650 would get a bid to one of the groups and we'd have new member classes of 80+. The 55-60 is not a predetermined number. It's the number of pnms attending preference divided by the number of chapters (roughly).

The problem is too many girls want to be in a certain chapter and not everyone is going to be in the chapter of their dreams.

Right, so when those 200+girls get dropped and end up with the same bottom house, all 200 will go in that one bottom house? Or wait....gee....that bottom house can’t fit 200. Maybe then place 100 back up to PKT who dropped them all after day one? Seriously.....

by: YESJan 29, 2020 6:50:31 PM

Yes, in your wild-ass improbable scenario, they would all get bids to that one house, even though it would put them way, way over Quota. If 200 girls got dropped by all but one house and attended pref there and put them on their cards then yes, ALL 200 WOULD GET BIDS THERE. This is because of Quota Plus, which guarantees a bid to every single PNM who does not SIP, even when it puts a house over Quota. But RFM is designed to prevent such a skewed distribution in the first place so that extreme would never happen. You are making things up to fit your own false narrative. You either have no understanding of the NPC process whatsoever or you are so far up your own ass that the facts don't matter.

That happened at Auburn awhile back and one sorority got a huge but happy pledge class.

Wait, do these girls think that because their parents paid so much for their school they should get the sorority of their choice? It seems like it. Life sure isn't like that!

Also, no national sorority would force a chapter to take legacies these days. Recruitment barely involves actives anymore.

Okay, "a week ago", i.e. Mom: you used 2 terms in your post that outed you as an older woman. Guess what they are.

And you claim that "you" would have to undergo rush and pledgeship as sophomores. That's if "you" get a bid.

The language in her posts makes me think English is not her first language. They are full of weird phrasing and sentence structure. And what's up with all the random capitalization?
