Retention

Poster Message:
The retention numbers are all on the Greek Grade Report, but you have to do the math yourself. Retention is shown by the difference in chapter membership from Fall semester to the following Spring semester. That is retention. There is a formula: From the reports, take the Total Members of a chapter in Fall and subtract the Active Members from the following spring to see retention. The Total Members of a chapter is comprised of the Active Members who returned from the previous semester combined with the New Members who accepted bids that semester. So Fall Total (everybody in the chapter old and new) minus Spring Active (the ones who returned) will show retention. The Spring to Fall numbers will show this somewhat also, but it's the Fall to Spring that gives the best snapshot of a chapter's culture. It is also important to compare a chapter's numbers with the All Sorority number to see where a single chapter falls in relation to the aggregate. Remember that every chapter is going to have December grads and some members not returning in spring, for all kinds of reasons. Losing a few members is not an issue. Retention numbers that stand out as a whole lot lower compared to other chapters and/or the All Sorority number, and a trend of this year after year, shows retention issues within a chapter.
