So you are stuck on campus during winter break. Maybe you are here to take a class or you just couldn’t afford the plane ticket back home. Whatever the reason, just because your friends left for the break doesn’t mean you have to live in misery. Spending winter break on campus is a great opportunity to do some things you wouldn’t normally have the chance to do. Here are some ideas on how to make your winter break on campus just a little more fun.
Decorate your room
Make some extra money Get a part time job or find one of the thousands of ways to freelance online. Sell off some extra clothes to get a little extra spending money for the post-holiday sales. Plenty of stores hire extra help for the holidays only. If you have extra time and no way to spend it, try putting a little extra cash in your pocket.
Learn how to cook yourself a nice meal Being at school for the holidays doesn’t mean you have to eat like a scrub. Put in the effort to make yourself a nice holiday meal. You can find a plethora of meal ideas on the internet. Try a new meal or make a family favorite.
Connect with friends in the area Connect with friends who are local or alums who have graduated and are working so they don’t get a break like we do. You would be surprised how many recent grads get lonely around the holidays because they only get to spend a couple of days at home, if that.
Get a head start on your new year’s resolutions You don’t have to (nor should you) wait until the new year to start your resolutions. Take this break that you have to get a jump start on the new habits you want to form while you don’t have the stress of school to stop you from succeeding.
Take some time to relax Finally read a book for fun or do that craft project you put off to study for finals (like the good student you are). You can preemptively craft for big-little reveal or make some late holiday presents. Or just make something for yourself. Personally, I think paddles are too much effort to give away without a really good reason so there’s always that to try.
Sleep in a lot Finals are over and you have earned a well-deserved nap. Or twelve. Whatever floats your boat. Take a midday nap every day or just sleep until noon. The best part of spending winter break alone is that you are on your own schedule which means you don’t have.
