fraternity rec

How much of an impact does an alum' s word put in for you have on the chances of getting a bid to a top fraternity? So long as you fit in with the guys at the house, is that a big bonus?

Depends on the alum. The best advice would to just be yourself and meet the guys. You're picking them as much as they are picking you. Don't concern yourself with the house reputation or status as much. Find where you feel comfortable and go with it... you can always work to change a reputation. Most recruitment chairs .can see through any BS so just be yourself and you'll find the right place for you

If they haven't offered you a bid yet then you probably aren't getting one. Most of the top houses and even middle-tier houses are filled up already or very very close.

If you need alum to put a word in for you, that seems very desperate and I'd lose respect for anyone who would ask another person to try to do their work for them.
