Sororities and grades
by: PC24 HopefulI plan to rush in the fall and hopeful of finding a house that feels I would be a great fit for them. I know a good number of girls from my hometown and high school that are in different sororities at UT and the girls are all really cool and seem to love their houses. It's important to me to keep my GPA high and I'm in an honors program and want to do well. Will that be difficult given the time commitment of greek life? Are some sororities more serious about their grades than others - or is it a mix in every house with some girls more focused on those things. Assuming I can get a bid, just want to make sure I know what I'm in for. Appreciate your thoughts.

From the list looks like some are better at time management than others.

I’m impressed with these girls- to get 3.6 for entire sorority and still be involved all over campus is tough

If you research, you will find that every year/semester GPAs vacillate for each SRAT. An engineering/STEM student vs an education/advertising student’s classes and GPA will be very very different. Every STRAT/FRAT has a mix of students. People in Greek life tend to have an overall higher GPA than the average UT student. If you’re at UT, you’re a very capable person.

Not very many stem students in Greek Life - I am and my srat has some but haven’t seen many other srat girls many in my classes
Students apply to UT in their strength but lots have to transfer around so balances out probably. Teachers have different strengths than those who pay someone else to take their tests- if you have to cheat do you deserve to be hired? In a relationship? Character flaws tend to be prevalent in life

If you have a strength in an area and a passion for it are you supposed to be embarrassed? Sounds like she was saying an engineering student is more valuable than a teacher or a more creative person and that’s pretty crappy.

Beta and DU are lower tier houses that seem to do well in grades. I'd expect that a fraternity that does well in grades will improve.
